Indiana intersections, like those in most states, are often dangerous sections of roadway, especially if there is a distracted or drunk driver nearby. Such drivers often fail to stop at red lights, which can have disastrous consequences. This is exactly what police believe had happened in a recent collision that took place at a crossroad on U.S. 31.
The driver of a Jeep had just entered the intersection after the traffic light turned green. The vehicle was traveling northbound at the time. However, the driver of a westbound pickup truck failed to stop at a red light. The pickup slammed into the Jeep, causing fatal injuries to a passenger inside.
Multiple vehicles were involved in the collision
As is often the case when a vehicle slams into another car, the force of impact in this collision caused the Jeep to spin, which then caused it to hit another vehicle. That vehicle also started spinning and ultimately struck a fourth car in another lane. In addition to the passenger who was pronounced dead at the scene, six others suffered injuries in the crash, including the driver of the pickup truck.
Police went to the hospital to investigate the crash
The pickup driver was arrested for suspected drunk driving after Indiana police spoke with him at the hospital where he was being treated for critical injuries.
